The role of a domiciliary optometrist is to visit residential units and private homes to bring those unable to travel to the opticians; they are expected to deliver the same quality of care and professionalism as is expected in a shop. Duties include fitting and testing prescription spectacles and contact lenses and carrying out aftercare service. The domiciliary optometrist must be comfortable working with vulnerable service users and those with disabilities.
